I own a cabin in the Poconos, get there from time to time, especially in hunting and skiing season, and once in awhile for the Raceway. I doubt the folks in Carbon and Wayne County would refer to me as a "local," but are kind and friendly as they joke me about my accent and tendency to wear shorts in the winter.
In a way, I guess we are all "local" every now and then, if we accept and adopt local values and appreciate them. Since I never heard of this dude who evidently bought into Avon, may he enjoy his times there.
You make a good point and one I agree with. I could actually argue both sides on this one. I've lived up here in PA for 22 years and still don't consider myself a local. When I'm back in NC, that's when I feel like a local. I also don't mind if someone calls themselves a local if they live there, even if it hasn't been long. Yup, I can play both sides on this one.
