I did not expect to find a sea turtle nest today, but I did. It's getting late in the season and it's been 2-3 weeks since the last one was found.

Refresh our memory - how long will it take for the next to hatch? Will someone be watching the nest?

Wow that IS a late one, takes between 50-60-days of incubation. Guaranteed that one will be watched closely since it will extend way into hurricane season. Pray

They would have to move it a long way if found near you because of the upcoming nourishment.

I could not believe it. I was quite surprised. Oddly, I found a nest last year Aug 13, 2016. One day later.

Tim, when did it become ok for the NEST organization to get the go ahead and move an endangered nest in harms way of a hurricane or storm tide? I saw where one was already relocated near Swan Beach up here. We could have saved two nests last year if we relocated them.

It must be done when they are found and it is a judgement call. They go with "if in doubt leave them where mama left them". I have had to stomp my foot once to get one moved a couple years ago that was in front of my house and I knew it would overwash where mama picked.
