Thursday-woke to mostly sunny skies and a calm wind. Ny first thought-what a perfect day to kayak over to Cape Point island! It's today or never! Wanted to wait till a few hours after high tide which was about 12 noon so I knew we had some time to kill. Cooked breakfast here at the cottage. Then I went for my usual morning walk. Rest and time in the sun on the deck. Then did some kayaking in the sound just to get ready! About 1:30 IT WAS TIME! Loaded up the truck with gear and a kayak. Thought we heard THUNDER! Checked to radar and sure enough way across the sound to the east was rain. Knew we had time so we headed to ramp 44 and the point. Picked our spot, backed up, unloaded the chairs and the kayak. Without even hesitating I was in that kayak and stroking that paddle toward my big island adventure. The really deep part was very short, next thing you know I was looking at a sandy bottom! I HAD MADE IT ON THE ISLAND! The island was covered with shells of all kinds. Big one, little ones, damaged one, pretty one. Found a few conch shells but all had been picked over and were partial and had ones. Explored the far side of the island and rolling up in the surf was THE PERFECT CONCH SHELL EVER! My prize for getting on that island! Picked up alot of shells of all kinds, stashed them in the kayak and headed back. There were some dark clouds coming so it was time to off that little island for today! Made it back to the other size easy. I was so proud and excited! Yes what we are doing tomorrow? Headed back for kayaking, shell searching, island exploring , body board riding and more at Cape Point! I have renamed the island Cape Point Shell Island. It is covered with beds and beds of shells! Headed home, cleaned up and then went to the Sandbar & Grill for a hamburger. A quick ride on Buxton backroad and back to the cottage for a quiet night. Forgot to take pictures of all the shells I picked up. Will post pictures of them tomorrow.

Friday-Again woke up to clear blue skies and a nice breeze. Decided to go to Sonny for breakfast again. Then went to the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum. The bookstore/gift shop is closed for remodeling-lady said it would next year before it reopened. Stopped at Hatteras Landing for some pictures of the ferry. Went in a few of the shops. Returned to the cottage to get ready to go to the beach. We decided just to go to Ramp 49 to relax and enjoy some quiet time on the beach. Cape Point was so crowded the other day we car next to car next to car. At ramp 49 most people give you more room. The waves were bigger than I like them, breaking out to far from shore to get past the breakers to swim and enjoy the water. So didn't spend alot of time in the water. After about 3 hours we came back , cleaned up, dog walked and went to eat at the Captains Table. (The Quarter deck is closed-looks like they are doing some renovations.) Then we rode out to Cape Point just to see what was going on. It was low tide-lots of ppl swimming over to the island. May have to go back there tomorrow just one more time before vacation is over! Stopped at Connors for a few items. Saturday we like to enjoy the soundside/canalfront cottage one last day, but we'll see! It sure has been a beautiful week. No rain at all. Very few clouds. A nice breeze to keep cool. Good eating, fun in the sun, fun in the sand, fun in the water. Lover Hatteras Island! Sun smiley with shades
Here is a picture of Ramp 49 beach today...

Lovely photographs - and what a wonderful trip you've had. My favorites are the little boy and his dog walking in the water and that gorgeous sailboat in the sound shot, though I certainly enjoyed them all. Thank you, Hatteraslady! Fish

P.S. And congrats on your kayaking out to Cape Point! Island

Saturday-Had a quiet morning at the cottage, cooked breakfast, long walk, and a rest with sun time and reading. One last kayak ride in the sound. Then a clean up and we headed to Odens dock to
see the boats come in. Not much to see though. We decided to go to a new place to eat for us-Hatteras Sol. We were one of the first in line. We got a table and ordered out usual-fried shrimp (came with FF, slaw and a veggy medley. It was the best food we have ever eaten on Hatteras Island. It was so good. Had heard they had great deserts so I got the key lime pie and he got the carrot cake. SOOOO good!!! The key lime pie crust was so thick and the topping so thick, a little dollop of whip cream and a slide strawberry for garnish. Oh it was so good! Had a table next to the window overlooking the marina docks with the sun going down. So pretty. We will be going back. Then we headed down pole road next to ramp 55. Had not been down pole road in years. We went all the way to the end and stopped where the inlet water meets the road (at high tide). Years ago you used to be able to take a 4X4 out there at park. Not any more. The erosion
of the beach is so bad from years of all the storms and hurricanes. The inlet water looked trecherous with waves and whitecaps everywhere. Then we headed back and rode out on ramp 55 just to take a look. The final night is always so sad to me. Stopped at Frisco Pier for some pictures and to see what parts have fallen down since last summer. Coming back up Highway 12 we saw a rainbow, then a double rainbow. What a way to end a trip! We stopped at Frisco Market and put air back in the tires. Returned to the cottage with a tiny bit of rain. Enjoyed the deck one last night. Dark clouds across the sound but far way. Did a little packing up and watched some TV (first time all week!) Now for the final post about our Hatteras Island vacation. Forgot to bring the camera in so I will post pictures tomorrow of the inlet and Frisco Pier and hopefully the rainbow. The weather has been perfect all week. Could not have asked for a better vacation here on HI. Thanks to all who have read and enjoyed this post. I love this place so much and want to let others know what a great place it is to take a vacation. Once I get home and start unpacking and washing clothes I will post pictures. Hope somebody can take over and tell us all about your Outer Banks vacation! Stay safe, have fun! Sun Island Fish

Next time try one of their specials. They often have a whole fried fish, wonderful.

Most of the desserts Sol has come from Scratchmade Snackery.

Sunday-woke up to cloudy skies and a little rain. Not a good beach day but a good travel day. We packed up and headed home. Just past Manns Harbor an ambulance passed us with sirens on and it was passing everybody and going real fast. Not good I thought. Well about 20 minutes later I came up on traffic backup and completely at a stop. It took about 1-1 1/2 hours to go the next 5 miles. I think just before Columbia there was a bad wreck on US 64. The ambulance passed us later without the sirens or lights flashing headed back toward the coast. There were some first responder trucks at the gas station near the Food Lion in Columbia. On up the highway there was a pretty beatup blue car on a wrecker. Finally where the two lane turns into 4 lanes the traffic cleared. A four hour drive turned in a 5 1/2 hour drive home. Pray for those involved in the wreck. Now home my kitchen floor is covered with boxes to unpack and piles of dirty clothes and linen to wash. Good to be home though. Still haven't looked at my camera pictures. Hope I get to it tomorrow. To all those reading hope you enjoy your Outer Banks vacation as much as I did mine. Later guys!
