BUTTER ROAST.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

OK, this thread has been alive for so long, I had to try it.

Gave the recipe to the wife and she made it last week and it was outstanding. Thumbs up

My wife's only regret was she didn't make a bigger roast.

Thanks for posting it.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

Try a can of your favorite beer in it next time..Prefer an Amber of sorts.Throw some peppers in at the end and you have a Italian Beef Sandwich.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I think this recipe will be on our list when we go on vacation this summer. Gotta check and see if the rental has a crock pot. LOL Thumbs up

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

Awesome dinner. Added potatoes & carrots & flipped the beef in last hour. The leftovers ore going on a hard sub roll with the gravy as a French Dip sandwich - probably better. Glad we have a crockpot at the beach. Will be making it again fer sure.
.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

We've made it twice so far. First time with a chuck roast, second time with a rump roast. Both times with carrots/potatoes/onions and both times delicious. So good and could not be easier.

I'm not sure if our rental this summer has a crock pot or not, I honestly don't remember. I might bring our's from home to be on the safe side.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I second the should have used a bigger roast!! smiley

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

We had this tonight, although I used broth instead of butter. I made steamed cauliflower and made a cauliflower mash with some salt, pepper, garlic and some of the juices from the roast.
Pretty tasty!

I make cauli for myself, too (watching carbs). Mash, pepper, drizzle with a little of the gravy - yum!

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

Tomorrow is the day for us. I hope it's as good as it sounds!!

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

It was a little too salty for my taste. I'm going to eliminate the Au Jus packet and season it myself. I did like the Ranch part. Next time I'm going with Jellybear's idea of adding some beer. Beer I'm sure the guys at work will love the leftovers today for lunch...

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

Okay, so we finally made this! Really good! I skimmed all the other posts and I see that some other folks made a kind of gravy, which is what I did...took the roast out of the juices and shredded it up. Made a quick roux, then added the crock pot juices to it to make a nice gravy and added the shredded meat back in, then served over egg noodles! It was fantastic. This recipe is very similar to Beef in a Bucket which I make to serve on sub rolls with mozzarella cheese:
Chuck Roast, in a crock pot with a jar of Pepperoncini Peppers (vinegary packing liquid included)and a packet of Ranch Mix...maybe a little beef broth if needed. Once it's cooked, I shred the meat and finely chop the peppers and throw it all back in the crock pot, then let everyone make their own sandwich. I like 'em messy, with a lot of the cooking liquid dribbled over so you have to eat it with a knife & fork! Anyway, that has been one of our beach go-to recipes for years, so I thought I'd share it here. Thumbs up

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

So I made this again yesterday. I put a frozen chuck roast in with the two packets, pepperoncinis and the unsaleted butter. Put on high for three hours, then low for three hours. It was incredible!!!!

Beth - I have to try your recipe next!

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

Made it the other day and my wife and daughter loved it.Does anyone know any other good ones for the crock pot. Theeth smiley

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

Home Sweet Home... look what you started!!! I'm thinking you should turn this into a book.... maybe "Tales of A Butter Roast, or The Life and Times of The Mississippi Pot Roast".

I tried it too, and it was delicious... I am amazed at the length of this thread!

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I love this thread, and check it all the time to see what's gone into someone's crock pot by now. Thank you, home "sweet" home.

I have been trying to get all the ingredients together, but just can't find that brand of ranch dressing. Does anyone have an opinion on another kind that would be almost the same? I have searched for it in Florida, SC, and WV. It's funny, Hidden Valley is everywhere in plain sight, but no Good Seasons Ranch.

i found the Publix brand of AuJus for 69 cents, and then found Kroger's for 79.

I feel that I have to follow the recipe exactly, or it will not be the Butter Roast. And by the way, I had hoped to find just one stick of butter somewhere, but, alas, I have 4 sticks and will have to make this 4 times by May 5 when the date on my butter expires. As good as it sounds, I think i can handle that.

I've made this 3 times now and used Hidden Valley every time - it'll work great, my family LOVED it.

Just put the butter in the freezer. It will keep for years!

Second, AFAIK, there is no Good Seasons Ranch dressing. The Hidden Vally brand dressing is right there with the other Good Seasons packets.

Linda

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

We've used the Hidden Valley both times with good results.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

FORGET THAT PORK TENDERLOIN RECIPE I POSTED.....TRIED IT AND IT'S WAY WAY WAY TOO SALTY. THE PORK WAS DELICIOUS AND FELL APART, BUT THE JUICE WAS AWFUL...EVEN ADDED A POTATO TO SOAK UP THE SALTINESS, BUT DIDN'T HELP.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I also have used the Hidden Valley one, and it comes out good, and yesterday I tried the Good Seasons garlic and herb seasoning instead of the ranch.... thats good too! smiley

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I laugh every time I come to this Board and see this thread STILL here. What a hoot! Glad everyone enjoyed the recipe, wish I could claim I invented it!

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

It just goes to show that we all want to think about something pleasant that we can all take part in RIGHt NOW. We all love the OBX, but we can not all be there today. Butter Roast can be enjoyed by us all, today, or whenever we want. When we eat it, we can think about all our OBC friends who have shared Butter Roast.

Putting the butter in the freezer is a good idea, thanks,Linda. And thanks for the Hidden Valley good opinions. I will get it tomorrow, and be all set.

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I tried this yesterday with boneless, skinless chicken breasts; used 1/4 stick of butter and a wee bit of chicken broth. It was incredibly delicious. After cooking for about 8 hours on low, I removed the chicken and put the broth in the freezer for 30 mins then skimmed off the fat. Served over noodles cooked in the broth. Amazing! Can't wait to try it with beef!

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

I have to bump this one back up . During the "snmageddon" here in central VA (we got 12") We woke up at 330AM to tend to some home chores and I put this together in the crock pot. Man by lunch the kitchen smelled GREAT and I let it cook. Was absoloutely great. even my picky daughter ate it up and asked when we were going to do it again. Thumbs up

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

This is like the tale of traveling pants or something...

RE: BUTTER ROAST.

The Tale of the Traveling Butter Roast...it has been made in many states and will be made many of us at the Beach...Someone posted along the line somewhere about chicken breasts with this recipe, I am going to try that too! Maybe a beach recipe too Thumbs up
