Avon

We are headed to Avon next week (9/22 - 9/29). How is Avon doing with the storm surge? Is the electric still on???? Any information will appreciated, were in Ohio and the news here is not the best and the internet is not showing much of Avon.

RE: Avon

If your on Facebook just type "avon, nc" in the search and it will bring up all the feeds from the locals that were sharing information. Lots of good video and commentary.

I heard 96 people lost power on Hatteras, so I am sure that won't be a problem.

RE: Avon

Links? Don't see anything current using Avon nc in search. Just rental sites and a community page with last post on September 9.

Thanks

RE: Avon

Avon and on up did not see the ocean wave action that Buxton and south did. But, if I had an ocean front house rented on Ocean Dr, that would be my one area of concern with the dunes gone in part of that area.

In general, I'd say stay tuned for another day or so and keep packing. NC 12 looks clear at the New Inlet and the sand on the road is already cleared at the S curves at Mirlo Beach.

RE: Avon

I think that you'll probably be good. We were scheduled to be down there tomorrow and had pretty much expected for the week to be a wash. I have to call the travel insurance company tomorrow and find out how long the restriction needs to be in place in order to get refunded for the entire week. Hoping to get down there sometime next month instead!

RE: Avon

Looking at my web cams, there is some Ocean over wash on Highway12. In central Avon on the sound side, just puddles from the rain in the neighborhood is all I can see now. The pavement even looks dry for now

I'm thinking that could be a possibility. However, if I can get refunded for the entire week, we'll just reschedule. Those two extra days really make a difference.

RE: Avon

I’d be shocked if insurance pays anything after access is opened up. We drove down last Sunday and had to leave Monday. I fully expect our insurance will not pay us for the whole week but rather 6/7 of what we spent.

I'm not sure who they had for trip insurance (they rented thru Twiddy) but I have friends who came down to Corolla last Sunday and had to leave Tuesday by 7 am and their trip insurance Co assured them they will be refunded for the whole week.

It depends on the terms. Read your policy. Mine states under both the interruption and cancellation sections:

* "Mandatory evacuation ordered by local authorities at the Insured’s scheduled destination due to hurricane or other
natural disaster"
* "The unit on the Insured’s scheduled arrival date or during the course of the Insured’s Trip becomes inaccessible for
48 consecutive hours at the direction of local authorities due to closure of local roadways or local municipality as a
result of fire, flood, volcano, earthquake hurricane or other natural disaster."

The above does not say how much they will pay, full trip time or pro-rated, if either of the above conditions gets met, so the amount of payment is not clear from this.

If we can't get in on Monday, we should be good.
